I just upgraded from Autocad LT to Autocad 2012 (full version). When I go to select a hatch pattern by left clicking on it the program locks up. Then I have to "force-close" Autocad 2012 and loose some of my work. It has done this in several diferent drawings. Autocad LT does not have this problem.
I have a HP Z workstation with 6 gigs of ram and an Intel I-5 processor (very fast machine) with a quadro fx 380 grahics card.
I tried reinstalling Autocad 2012 and that didnt help. Not sure what to do. Please help!

Problem was I had .pat files in the same folder has the problem drawing. When I moved the hatch patern files into another directory it fixed the problem. Never knew that having .pat files in the same folder would crash autocad but I guess it does.
I'm having great difficulty in rectifying this problem - I must have force close ACAD2012 at least 20 times today and restarted my machine 3-4 times. It's been a very unproductive day to say the least
I've checked my settings, as asked previously and they are:
HATCH PREVIEW: off
My PC has an i5 processor (2.8Ghz), with 12GB RAM and running Win7 x64
It wont even allow me to select the hatch to delete it from the drawing. It's become a vicious circle!!
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me some promt advice, as I have a deadline to meet (like most of us, I suspect)
I would suggest setting HPDLGMODE to 1, not 0 or 2.
Are you selecting the hatch first before deleting (AutoCAD seems to spend some time processing hatches, and on a complex hatch can appear to lock up), or after invoking the ERASE command (almost instantaneous here)?
Please install the service packs and hotfix for AutoCAD 2012 available from the below link. I’m sure this will resolve the issue. If not let me know.

I am having the same issue with Autocad locking up & crashing.....I changed my settings to the settings stated above...no change...I do have regions in my drawings and noticed that influenced it to lock ups.....but just using the tools provided to me...I have iimported drawings from inventor and simplified the drawings so it wouldn't cause problems by shutting the layer off with that object being shut off.....I didn't have this problem with the an older version......need help to correct this.....makes a task go from a few easy commands to complete the work to a hour to hours to make it pass the lock ups....
I have had a similar issue after working on data imported from DGN files for the last few days.
I found the hatch pattern box was over populated with about 200+ hatch styles all prefixed DGN_
By running hatch command and selecting T to access the settings menu I could then access the Hatch patterns menu and could find where all these extra hatch pattern where hiding.
After deleting these files DGN_xxxx.pat Autocad returned to normal staus.
Hope it works for you.
hi autodesk guys! it's my firts post here.
I have the same problem with the hatch command.
-I write "h" (enter)
-then the cross cursor changes to windows arrow and UI freezes, when i click to anyplace and it sounds the windows error sound.
-this fixes repeatedly pressing "ESC" but I can't do the command hatch
I suspect it all started when windows 7 download and update to service pack 1, because after I downloaded all updates and hotfixes for autocad 2012 and update the graphics driver and still the problem.
I use autocad 2012 for 64-bit laptop, my laptop is new, purchased less than a month. HP Pavilion g4 AMD E-450 with dedicated graphics card radeon HD 6320 and 8 gb of ram.
thanks for read my post.
