Created a deployment for AutoCAD 2012. In the deployment, under 'Search Paths and File Locations', I set the 'Support File Search Path'. Installed AutoCAD using the deployment. When I start AutoCAD, it uses the path specified in the deployment.
Now I want to change the path. No problem changing it in the deployment, but how do I modify it on the systems already installed?
My guess was it's stored somewhere in registry, but I can't find it. Next guess something like a default profile would be stored in the folder UserDataCache. Not there.
So does anyone know the location of the default profile for new users??

Re-installing to change the search paths is a bit (well, a LOT) of overkill. Many of the search paths are stored in the registry on a per-user, per-version, per-AutoCAD profile basis.

I know. That's why I'm trying to find out where the default values are stored...

The easiest way to modify the support files path is by using the Options dialog:
From the command line, Options ->> Files ->> Support File Search Path.

I know how to change the path. But that isn't the question.
The question is: Where are the default AutoCAD 2012 profile settings stored?
You know, those settings wich are applied when a new user starts AutoCAD for the very first time.
Simon
I believe those are hard coded. But since we set them through REG or ARG files, the default values become irrelevant.

Have the "systems already installed" been initialized by a user, or are you hoping to modify "something" so that future users will get the new setting when they initialize?
If this is for future users, you could create and export a profile (ARG) with the desired settings, and then provide a desktop shortcut that uses the /p switch specifying that profile. (Disclaimer: this sounds to me like it would work, but I have not tested it myself.)
If this is for users who have already initialized, I believe the support file search path in the current profile can be modified programmatically, with Vlisp. I would refer you to that Discussion group. Here's an example post:
Hope this leads you to a solution.

No they are not. See the initial question.

That's the whole idea. Again, when a user starts AutoCAD for the first time, it is provided with the default profile settings. You can specify a bunch of those profile settings in the deployment used to install AutoCAD. When AutoCAD is installed, the default profile settings are stored somewhere on the machine. The question is where.
Can't be that hard?

Hi,
I don't know where it's stored too, sorry. But one idea to find it (with a little bit time and one virtual machine):
a) create a deployment with an additional support path setting to something like C:\XYXYXYXYXY
b) install onto the virtual machine using the above deployment
c) now you have a unique string "XYXYXYXYXY" you can search for within files and within registry
HTH, - alfred -
PS: I know that this is not an efficient way, but better than no idea, I hope you can see it that way! 😉
OK, found it. It's stored in the transform file. In the deployment, it's stored under 'AdminImage\x64\acad' and is called 'acad-AutoCAD 2012 x64.mst' in my case.
So what I did was modify the paths in the deployment and use a script to copy the modified MST to the local installations. in Windows 7, the MST files are stored in '%windir%\Installer\{5783F2D7-A001-0409-0102-0060B0CE6BBA}'.
Problem solved.

This post came up in a Google search and I might need this information in the future. The example below is for Civil 3D 2020, the version numbers and product numbers would need to be adjusted for the current year.
After resetting a profile, the new values are pulled from the registry in the Local Machine. In this case my default profile name is "Ct_Design".
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R23.1\ACAD-3000:409\Profiles\Ct_Design\General
For the 'Support File Search Path' it should be ACAD key.
So if I need to update a location I need to change the key in the Current User and also the Local Machine so if the user resets the profile the new value will show up.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R23.1\ACAD-3000:409\Profiles\Ct_Design\General
