if i drew several drawing and xrefed them into one main drawing would the main drawing be smaller then just having 1 drawing?if not how is there a way to create smaller files?

Yes your main drawing could contain ONLY XREFs files !

So it will be very small (less than 100 Ko I presume)

Bue AutoCAD manages in memory ALL yours drawings (Main DWG + XREFs + Images + etc),

so it's doent make a signifant difference in term of memory usage and speed ...
