Just up graded to Autocad 2012 (student version), can anyone tell me how to turn the work space from the new ribbon format to the classic workspace, or if it is possible to do so, as know how on the full version but cant see it on student...

I am actually running AutoCAD Civil 3D as AutoCAD 2012, but I am assuming that you will see the same thing as in the attached image. In the lower right corner, there is an icon that looks like a gear or cog. Click on the that icon and select AutoCAD Classic.
Thank for the reply but that is on standard version, but the student version only has a single option - Architecture - in the gear button, and was wondering if the setting had been hidden somewhere...
Type in OPTIONS, go to the right of tabs, stop at PROFILES, choose Autocad.
or on your Autocad desktop icon, right click, Properties, change "Autocad Archi....." to Autocad and it will always start plain Autocad.
After that you can use the gear icon to choose workspaces.
So you have AutoCAD Architecture, not AutoCAD: and you just turned off everything about Architecture to plain AutoCAD 2D. Was that because you are not going to use it in Architecture classes, you are studying something else?
If you are taking ARCH classes, I suspect they expect you to use the tool to it's fullest, better ask around quickly.
