Viewport Color in Layer Property

All,
I'm using AutoCAD 2011. For some reason, in most of my dwg files, when I changed the viewport color, viewport layer color doesn't display correctly. Even though I start from the new file, it's the same way. But one day, I was working on some file other people send to me, it shows up correctly. Does anyone know how to fix it? It bothers me for a long time and I have been searching online but still can't find the answer.
Highly appricate.
Silvia

Do you see where it said By Layer (VP) It's Color Override.
Go to Layer Properties Manager, on Layer 0, look for 2 different colors, make them the same.
(It's good not to make viewport on layer zero)

If you, like me, hate viewport layer overrides (such as this), set the system variable VPLAYEROVERRIDESMODE to 0 (zero).
You may also have to go into your layer manager, right-click on a layer and choose the option:
Remove Viewport Overrides for > All Layers > In All Viewports.
They are occasionally useful, but they shouldn't behave this way by default.
(Also, it's not good to have anything on layer zero, IMO)

Probably I didn't explain my question well. I was hoping to show the viewport override, but for some reason it couldn't display correctly. However, troma gave me the hint of what my problem is. If I set VPLAYEROVERRIDESMODE to 1, my problem is solved.
Thanks for all your responses.
