AutoCAD 2010/2011/2012 DWG Format

I thought the whole purpose of xrefs was to minimize the size of the drawing. I created one; brought it into the drawing and deleted everything the xref replaced, and the file size grew significantly.  Why does it create copies of the standard layers I already have in my template, and then call them unreconciled?

If I were to create a series of xrefs for a very large door schedule drawing, I'd end up with thousands of layers and increase the file size and the complexity of the drawing.  Why doesn't it recongnize that these layers already exist?

You can set LAYEREVALCTL to 0 to prevent the message from comming up.

Did you purge after deleting everything?

JUST BECAUSE IT BLOCKS THE MESSAGE,,,,,DOES THAT MEAN IT WON'T CREATE ALL THOSE EXTRA LAYERS?

AND IF I PURGE, ALL MY STANDARD TEMPLATE LAYERS THAT WEREN'T BEING USED WOULD ALSO PURGE.

Check under 'Layer settings ' in layer window, and select/unselect the options.

SORRY,,,,I STILL HAVE 41 DUPLICATED LAYERS JUST BY CREATING ONE X REF, AND I'D PROBABLY HAVE TO CREATE 20 TO 30 MORE TO TRY AND MINIMIZE THE SIZE OF THIS DOOR SCHEDULE DWG, WHICH IS UP TO 6,000 kb NOW THAT I CREATED ONE.  I'VE NEVER USED ONE XREF IN 7 YRS,,,JUST BECAUSE OF THE LAYER ISSUE.

BUT, THANKS FOR TRYING TO BOTH OF YOU WHO ANSWERED.  IF A SOLUTION IS AVAILABLE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
