Hello everybody,
I draw a 3D model with colours in AutoCAD 2012 and save it in .dwg file. After that I open this file with Inventor Fusion 2012, I see the model and export it in .step format. When I open this .step in Fusion 2012 or in other program (Altium Designer 2010) colours are lost.... Everything is grey..... I want to keep the colours of my 3D model.
Is it possible? Do I use a wrong settings? Where can I modify?
Can Fusion 2012 export in AP214 step format and keep the colours?
I enclosed some files....
I open the.step files and I write a random values to RGB_COLOURS row, save as it and so Fusion can open and visualize the new file with colours (not grey!).
The question: Why can not I save .step files with colours?
Thanks.
Viktor

Hi Victor,
as far as I can tell Inventor Fusion currently does not seem to support keeping the color in the export.
I will get some clarification from our developers on this and will let you know the result.
Best regards,

Your AutoCAD 3D model is only a single solid with the faces coloured.
When you import into Fusion, it sees the model as one solid and therefore only the base colour will be shown.
If I create a multiple solid part in AutoCAD and assign different materials, now when you import into Fusion the materials are retained.

Can you send me your dwg file? Thanks.

Although you can import the DWG into Fusion and maintain Colour / Material, if you then export to STEP we lose the properties. I must have missed out an operation when I first tested this.
I will log the issue with development.

Hi There,
I am a Tekla 3D user. One of my client use their design 3D Inventor. I try to import their model from Inventor to my Tekla. I want to know if Inventor has *.ifc, *.SDNF, *.STEP format of export file.
Regards,
David Bao
