Open multiple drawings using one AutoCAD window only in Windows 7

Hi there,
OK I've done my homework but can't seem to figure out why Autocad 2012 opens one window per drawing as opposed to Autocad 2007/2008 opening one window for as many drawings as you have open. (I also don't care to group/ungroup similar programs through Windows 7.) This must be an Autocad 2012 program default that I can't figure out to change.
Anybody experience this and know how to fix it please?
Many thanks!

Hi,
If the problem is that multiple sessions of AutoCAD are started when opening drawings from explorer then you need to ensure that the "Open with" setting for DWG files is the "AutoCAD DWG Launcher".
This can be done by right clicking a DWG file, clicking properties, choosing the general tab and then click the change change button. If the AutoCAD DWG Launcher is not listed you will need to click browse and then browse to the path:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AcShellEx\AcLauncher.exe
Thanks,

I see the same thing, which changed from 2011, and would like a resolution. Each open drawing is a seperate window/taskbar button, regardless if it is opened within Autocad or from explorer (with "AutoCAD DWG Launcher").

Sayyy if you're on a multi-core processor, wouldn't there be an advantage in running one session on each? I meant if you don't have more drawings open than the number of cores lol...

Alrighty,
Thanks for the input all. First, the SDI will only allow 1 drawing open at a time, therefore not ideal when you want a whole set open.
I have been by default opening with the AutoCAD DWG Launcher. And tried switching back and forth to open with the application too.
I am attaching two images which explains the nature of the problem clearly:
- 2012 - 3 tabs at the taskbar, 3 open drawings
- 2008 - 1 tab at the taskbar, 3 open drawings
Again, I am on Windows 7.
Let me know if this is the case one your pc's.

This is the case on my PC, and I just confimed that 2010 behaves as you show for 2008 (one window), 2011 behaves as 2012 (multiple windows, I was wrong about 2011above).

Resolved - TASKBAR = 1 (multiple windows) 0(one window)
Seeing that it changed in v2011, I searched that board and found the resolution here
