    Not shipping discs???

So we just got our email from AutoDesk that we can now download 2010 from
the subscription centre. We checked into it, and the answer that we got is
that they will NOT ship a disc by default, and that this will help to get
the customer their version quicker... Is this correct?

Probably. Autodesk got an adverse ruling when they convinced eBay to
shutdown the site of a man who was selling used autocad. The district
judge disagreed, i.e., the man could sell used software. So, it would
appear that autodesk is going to no longer issue discs that can possibly
be sold as "used". Just means that everybody will have to burn their own
    discs from the downloaded version.

I understood as it will be avalable to download and will be shipped as disk also, unless you opt out of the shipping in the subscription centre.

I fail to see how this is a valid point. Autodesk has done both downloads and shipping discs for years, how is changing that to download only "catching up"? If anything it's less service and work on their part, not some exciting innovation to keep up with the so-called competition. I believe the user you responded to is much more correct than yourself.

We got the response from them that they will NOT ship the disc, unless you
SPECIFICALLY ASK FOR IT. I think it's dumb, but then again, others are
    going this way, so whatever.

Just talked with my reseller. He said this policy wasn't "set in stone"
so I don't know if I'm getting discs or not. I can't currently log into
the subscription center (issues being resolved by my reseller) so I'll
have to wait or grab a trial download, assuming it's available.

ha ha ha.  cutting costs like the competition
instead of providing goods to the customer is "catching up".  Sounds more
like dropping value to match the next lowest common denominator.

If anything it's MS that's always tried to catch up
with adesk - at least since r14.

Here's how it works. If you are a Subscription customer in Canada, South Korea or the UK, Autodesk will not automatically ship your 2010 product upgrade. However, you can come to the Subscription Center and have your choice of a download, boxed product or both for free. We are piloting a new approach to distributing upgrades in Canada, South Korea and UK. Get your upgrade, your way when you want it. The Subscription Center is your 24 x 7 tool for accessing the products and product extensions you have on subscription, and yes, it is good for the environment too. If you are anywhere else in the world we will automatically ship your 2010 product upgrade as we have done in the past, but you will also have access to a download on the Subscription Center. To learn more visit subscription.autodesk.com and select the Speed Up. Download promotional box. How do I know all this? I'm the Project Manager:smileywink:
