    Missing Express Tools

I just upgraded from autocad 2011 to 2012 and I'm not sure how to load my express tools. I had this problem before when I upgraded to 2011. The problem I'm having this time is that when I go to the "uninstall/change programs" through windows I only see Autocad Mechanical 2012 (see attached JPG). Anyone have a solution?

No, I do not see it listed.

If I open autocad mechanical it shows the express tools. Also, there is a express folder on my hard drive.

    Hi Steve,

When you install AutoCAD Mechanical you will only see it in Add/Remove programs - there isn't a separate AutoCAD install.  Running AutoCAD 2012 is running mechanical as vanilla AutoCAD.  I'm guessing after installing you ran as Mechanical first  (where you're seeing Express tools), and then as AutoCAD (where the express tools aren't showing up).

    Please try this:

Launch as AutoCAD > CUILOAD then click Browse... and browse to/select this file:

    C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD Mechanical 2012\R18.2\enu\Support\acetmain.cuix

Load and Close and you should see Express Tools.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Steve,

Are the express tools commands recognized when you run as Mechanical or do you get the same thing there?

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Steve,

OK, try 2...  Turns out Express Tools are not installed by default for AutoCAD Mechanical so manually loading the cuix file gave you the UI only, not the whole feature.  Sorry about that.

The cleanest way to fix this is to go to your Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall a program then select AutoCAD Mechanical in the list then Uninstall/Change.  When the installer pops up, click Add or Remove Features, check Express Tools and then Update.  For a new install you'd expand the AutoCAD Mechanical 2012 item on the Configure Installation page of the Install wizard and check it so it is included from the start.

Alternately, since you've already loaded the cuix file you can APPLOAD these two FAS files: acettest.fas and acetutil.fas in the Express folder and that should also get you up and running.

Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,
    Chris
