I have this exact problem with our Windows 7 64bit PC's. You can browse to them in the AutoCad dialogue box, but searching via windows on the mapped drive (The windows server has been set to index the files) does not always show them. The .bak file is always displayed.
Using the new style "Windows Search" directly on the Windows 2003 R2 Standard server, the same results of missing dwg files are experienced, but using the older "Search Companion" link on "Windows Search" (The older XP type search) works fine.
Once the file has been searched for, opened in AutoCad and then saved, a new search finds the DWG file. This applies to old files as well as new files.
I would also appreciate a solution to this issue.
Thanks for telling me you do have the same problem.
I remember now, it only happy when we start to use AutoCAD2012. We only updated to AutoCAD 2012 last month, before we used AutoCAD 2009, I had no problem with the windows search.
We use AutoCad LT 2012 (Installed in April 2011). The first reported occurrence happened 24/11/2011. I also get this when searching on a Windows 7 PC that does not have AutoCad installed which indicates that it is not necessarily an AutoCad issue. My guess is possibly a recent Windows update.
I am going to keep hunting on this as it is affecting our design teams productivity.
I Disable Search Indexing In Windows 7, it looks solve my problem.
Have look at this link for “ Disable Search Indexing In Windows 7”
Tried switching off search indexing but found today that it still doesn't pick up on a recently created dwg file. I also had an Excel file that didn't show up (Does in XP).
Apart from an alternative search utility, are there any other ideas out there.
