    Patchy,

I actually have taken classes. I learned R14 in community college while still in my senior year of high school back in 95. I even later went to a community college to learn R2000 and receive high marks while earning a 2 year degree in drafting & design technology. Sadly, no teacher can review every minute detail that Autocad has within the limited time frame of a couple of semesters. This was just one of the things they skipped.

I have been using Autocad ever since, and have even learned to program lisp. What little continued training I have been able to get, hasn't ever covered this either. Only now have we take on a client who has never taken a class in autocad. Unfortunately we can't tell them to do so, so we have to adapt instead. Learing this little bit is simply something that was never considered important before and slipped through the cracks.

    Pendean,

YES, thank you very much. The Youtube post showed me what I was doing wrong.

FYI, below are the steps for HOW to filter items by color.

    1. Type FILTER at the command line.

    2. Delete andy filters listed in the top selection list.

    3. Under Select filter, click the pull down arrow & choose the filter type you need. (color)

    4. Click the select button & choose the color you need.

    5. Click the add to list button.

    6. Click the Apply button (not self explanatory but this is to window all objects).

    7. Window all objects in your drawing & enter.

Sucess; all blue objects will be highlighted regardless of the layer they are on.

By now you probably figured this out... but I'll attach this anyway.  It's really quite simple.

FYI, You can try EXPLODEALL to explode all blocks and keep sub-entities' color as they are even they are on layer 0.

Then use FILTER to filter out object by color.

Actually I've been using BURST, ALL. That way everything retains the layer & color info they were placed on, not created on. FILTER then works as expected, but of course either way the drawing size will grow exponentially.
