I am trying to import .sat files into an educational version of autoCAD 2011. I am using the import command and selecting the .sat format selecting the file and then I am getting "Unable to read the ACIS file E:\001904 GS PM_2.SAT"....any suggestions?

    Hi,

what version does the SAT-file have?

Reading the help brought my to my first tip: AutoCAD 2011 does support SAT-files versions up to 7 (>>>details<<<).

as indicated - Autodesk products will open ACIS (*.sat) files up to v7.

For *.igs or *.step or *.stp you would need a later version of AutoCAD or you could use the FREE

    Inventor Fusion http://labs.autodesk.com

You can check the version of an ACIS (*.sat) file by opening in Notepad and check the first or second line.

Search for download of Hoops ACIS Viewer if you need to convert from a later version of ACIS down to v7.

The menu location in Hoops to convert down to v7 is not where you might expect it to be - so look around.

So I opened the .sat file in notepad (see attache jpg) and it appears that it is version 19?....however in AutoCAD when going import>acis> then selecting file I still get....."import Unable to read the ACIS file E:\001904 GS PM_2.SAT".....???

You must have missed the point that Autodesk products only read up to v7 ACIS, so of course AutoCAD is not going to read a v19 ACIS file.

You will need to use something like Hoops ACIS Viewer (search Google) to convert down or ask the source to set the save Option to v7 or ask the source for a STEP (*.stp) file or *.dwg.

If you attach the file here - I will convert it for you.
First you must right click on the filename and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder, and then attach the resulting *.zip file here.
