First off if you read my posts you will see that I am in the NNTP camp so I
am not by any means advocating the web forum.
To clarify my statement, if Autodesk were making this change exclusively for
their benfit, then why offer the service at all? It would be cheaper to just
terminate it. So what would be the motive for continuing the service? Logic
tells me that by offering a support forum the users of their products will
gain value from their product which will in turn keep their business. That
is the two way benefit. It makes financial sense.
If my reasoning is sound, then I would think Autodesk would be interested in
the impact of the change on the user's experience. Of course, as has been
suggested, they may be looking at the change as an advertising venue. So
far, in my experience, none of the corporate web based user forums I use
serve up advertising via the forum, including the ADESK web forum, so I am
not inclined to believe that is a primary motive.

I've never been censored on the ADESK forums. I have been pretty vocal at
times and have frequently extoled Microstation and Power Civil over Autocad
and Civil 3D. You may have a valid point, but based on my experience I'm
not convinced that is a primary motivation.
