I updated a working cad station with the lastest pathes. It loaded the new MS Dot Net framework 4. Now Acad crashes if you open it, see below. If you click on an existing drawing it opens and you can work with no problems.
My question is - Is Acad 2011 compatable with the new DotNet 4? The fault module below is DotNet. The old drawings were created using 3.51 DotNet so it looks to me it tries to use the dot net 4 on new drawing. Help!

Could it just be your 'new' template file is corrupt? Do you start with an in-house template, or do you leave it to Autodesk's OOTB empty default?
The program either opens or it does not if the fault in .NET AFAIK, it's not dependent on a DWG's age.
Are you the only user of AutoCAD in your office?
Do you have an ACAD.DWT and ACADISO.DWT files in your Template folder? Replace them with ones from another setup.
A repair reinstall of AutoCAD with you accepting to replace all files should fix it too.
Honestly, you should get out of the habit of starting a new drawing like that, you probably ought to take a few moments and make a template file from one of your existing files, with all your desired settings. Then look up QNEW in Help and start new files the "proper" way.
Actually I'm one of the IT guys and Autocad is only one of my responsibilities. Maybe a template file is what we need. The autocad guys, about 50 of them, are always having this problem.
You might see the thread http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-2011/NCS-Tem
Did you figure out if it was the template file or not? The .NET 4 install probably changed something in the operating system that AutoCAD 2011 didn't like, probably concerning an older version of .NET. What version of Windows is being used?
AutoCAD 2008 uses .NET 2.0
AutoCAD 2009 uses .NET 3.0
AutoCAD 2010 uses .NET 3.5
AutoCAD 2011 uses .NET 3.5
AutoCAD 2012 uses .NET 4.0
If you can get by without .NET 4, you might just take it back off the system, or maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling it again.
Thanks for the info. It will help other problems I have but this one could only be fixed with uninstalling, formatting the disk and reloading the OS. You can close the call.
I am new to all of this so I might be mistaken. I was not able to even download AutoCAD 2011 until I updated dotnet to 4.0. I am having a terrible time with the program. It stops responding almost every time I give it a command.
I have a wonderful professor and he has instructed us extensively on the template files and whatever else needed to be done before installation. We are both puzzled. My computer certainly has the specs and I upgraded my monitor.
I was told it might have something to do with color management and/or screen resolution.
Could you give me a little information concerning that, please?
