    AutoCAD DWG Launcher

I just had a client claim that when they double-click on a DWG they get from us, that it launches DWG TrueView, but when they double-click on a DWG from a different firm, it opens with AutoCAD.

They have AutoCAD LT 2011.  We have AutoCAD 2012.

I want to tell them they are nuts, but has anyone else ever heard of this behavior?

To my knowledge, the file association is kept by Windows and all it looks at is the extension

dunno if LT2011 can open a 2012 format - are they sure that the other vendors/consultants are 2012 or are they 2011? I suspect that the others' are 2011, such that LT2011 can read them...

AutoCAD 2010, 2011, and 2012 all save DWG files in the same format (2010).

Your client is nuts - your knowledge is correct.  Your job now is to diplomatically help them figure this out as if THEY figured it out!  :smileywink:

If your files are opened on machine A, and the other on machine B, that's possible of course. No offense to the person asking, but sometimes this is often missed.

Same is true if they used the viewer before opening your file, or LT before opening the other people's files.

If they have recently installed the viewer (not sure why, LT2011 can read all files from any AutoCAD version and can handle conversions etc.), uninstalling it would fix the problem too. As you note, Windows controls what gets used, if they can't tell which one they started last this would fix it.
