AutoCAD 2012 unreliable and contiuously crashes on various commands. Notebook shuts down & reboots from system recover startup menu. No error record or reported by autocad due to total crash of notebook. Windows systems reports "previous system shutdown was unexpected" and " computer has rebooted from a bugcheck".
The following actions always caused crashes :
-Selection of "Dist" from toolbar
-Selecting "Purge All" when purging, purging individual item did not cause crash
-Selection of "Rotate" from toolbar
-Print "Legal" size page, printing of "letter" size page did not cause crash
Performed the standand repair & reload of AutoCAD 2012 with no improved results. I have abandoned the use of 2012 and reloaded the last proven version 2010 with SP 64 bit due to project timelines required in my business. 2010 has been working with no errors or crashes.
Currently running many other programs (several are XP mode) with no errors.
Current Notebook:
- New (May 2011) Dell Vostro Notebook 3750
- Windows 7 64 bit current SP & updates
- Microsoft Security Essential installed (only security program that has not conflicted with previous AutoCAD software)

Do you get the same issue if you use AutoCAD 2012 in Windows diagnostic mode?
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?si
Note: for 2012 version you have to enable the service is called FLEXnet Licensing Service 64.
What is the graphics card and driver version in use?
Does it happen with all the files or only some?
How about new files created from scratch, or sample files?

If the above does not make any difference you could try uninstalling AutoCAD 2012 and then reinstalling it.
Cheers,
Luciane

i have a similar issue;
i have just upgraqded my autocad lt from 2011 to 2012. and when i purge any of my drawings, and i select "purge all" then it either gives me the blue screen error and reboots, or my screen goes black for a second or two then windows notifies me that my display card has stopped working. ive had this issue with 4-5 different files and only happens when i purge all items. ive re-installed it, but still same issue. please assist.

In addition to my previous post, check if the graphics card and drivers are supported, maybe there is a new driver version that is more suitable to your hardware:

I think I have the same problem as you. Try to close the WINDOWS AERO . Use the win7 basic theme.I don't know why. It works for me .perhaps a bug for autocad 2012. TRY IT!

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem. I followed instructions and it worked!
When Autodesk is planning to release a patch to solve that issue with the Aero theme from Win7?
Regards,
Marco

Hi Cadcraft,
Could you please send your machine's system information file and, if requested, submit the error report to Autodesk and let me know the email address informed in the report?
You can use the forum private message system to send me this information.
Cheers,
Luciane

I had a similar issue and resolved it by removing all excess layer filters. If you click on the layer properties box you should get a message to delete excess layer filters. Hope that helps.

I had the same problem with Civil 3D 2012 crashing on windows 7 64bit. I put my theme on windows 7 basic, seems to have done the trick.

Crashes are caused by lame Ribbon fad taking software industry by storm.
It's the Ribbon and .NET crashing you. Switch Autocad to CLASSIC MODE and even 2012 becomes reliable or at least "more" reliable, also I switched Inventor2012 into classic - how, is a secret.
That has no relation to WINODWS Theme.
Now do switch WIndows into Classic themse as well as Autocad (both)., customize colors in WIndows Win COlor/Appearance by theway, it works unlike lame Aero theme meant fo rkids and home/nonprofessional users.
