AutoCAD searches, then use the Hatch command's Custom option to browse
through them and use them.

I think this was a change in about v2005-7 somewhere.
They are now loaded under the custom tab.

No need to add anything. Simply put all of those downloads in a folder that
AutoCAD searches, then use the Hatch command's Custom option to browse
through them and use them.

once I discovered it was no longer needed.

loading time since the command will have to display all the patterns it
finds. To eliminate this slowness, custom hatch patterns should be saved as
separate *.pat files and only loaded to be displayed in the Custom Hatch
pattern dialog box when needed.

Am I correct that it can't load any extra in that file.

R2011 if you use the new feature Hatch Ribbon: it comes down to pure
quantities, the fewer you have the less-slow it operates.
Dialog box still works the best.

Cheers guys, but I still have a few problems,
I cant write to the .PAT file because I cant save in the correct file format, and I cant find out what format it requires because the bloody help system doesnt contain anything at all on the subject.
I could copy them into a folder that autocad searches, but how do I find out or dictate what file it searches for them?
Again, the help system is no use.
If you could tell me how to load specific *.pat files into autoCAD drawings I could give that a go, that makes most sense to me to be honest, these qarent all hatches that I would use regularly.
I would have looked on the help system for that but guess what! Its useless.
If anyone could help with any of this, or point me to a walkthrough or something, I would be very grateful.
Cheers!
