You probably need to repair your Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
Or you can print the PDF to DWF and the attach the DWF.

Open the PDF in Acrobat Reader.
Click on the camera button, and window the area you want (zoom in for better
resolution capture, real close, the entire window will move when you hit the
edge of the screen. When done, Acrobat Reader will notify you it copied.
In AutoCAD, PASTESPEC, pick one of the image options.
Done.

A better solution: grab Autodesk's free DWF Windows driver, install it,
print your PDF to DWF, attach the DWF to your DWG file.

A 30 second search on the AutoDesk web site yields this:

I had searched, and found the one you pointed me to, and a driver for DWFx, and I didn't know which was appropriate; that's why I asked.

Dean,

I've installed the DWF writer, (can produce windows based DWF),

"dwfattach" into DWG Drawing, all looks good, but this DWF file is an Xref,
XREF are NOT recommended in my case.
How can I insert or bind ---permanently attached to the drawing?

Thanks,

3dCAD

Type CLASSICXREF select the Xref you want to bind and hit the BIND button.
