Can anyone fill me in on how to create a custom linetype with letters like "wtr" signifyinga watermain.

Your first time making a linetype you should make a copy of your ACAD.LIN for safe keeping.

Open ACAD.LIN with Wordpad

Look for linetype GAS (for example)   Copy and paste it

Replace GAS to wtr

Save ACAD.LIN

Restart autocad.

*WATER_LINE,Water Line ----WTR----WTR----WTR----WTR----WTR----WTR--
A,.5,-.2,["WTR",STANDARD,S=.1,U=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-.05],-.25

 Paste that into your ACAD.LIN file under User Defined Linetypes
