Enlarged Dimensions

A couple of our workstations are having problems with enlarged arch. tick marks when inserting dimension styles from the design center. In the 'standard' drawing they look fine, but when you insert them into whatever drawing you are working on, the ticks are huge. From what I can tell, nothing changes in the dialog box from the standard dwg to the dwg you are working in. I've tried a couple of system variables, but nothing has worked so far. Note: when we change to an oblique tick it looks fine, but when we change back to arch. tick, it enlarges again. Any clues?
