AutoCAD 2007/2008/2009 DWG Format

How can I switch interface of AutoCAD2009 in AutoCAD2008 ( or older)
style - with toolbars?

Click on the little "gear" icon in the lower right corner of your interface, select "AutoCAD Classic" from the menu.

This should put things back to the 2008 appearance.

In the near future, you might want to spend a little time each day familiarizing yourself with the new Ribbon Interface. This appears to be the direction that AutoCAD is headed.

Old school mentality tells me not to spend too much time "familiarizing" oneself with the ribbon. Right about the time you get comfortable with it AutoDESK will change it as they did in the "improvement" from v2008 to v2009. If the classic interface is what you are comfortable with (and AutoDESK gives you the option to function as such) I'd say stick with that so your productivity doesn't suffer.

The Ribbon is a reality in MSOffice2007 and is starting to appear
everywhere: let's hope Autodesk keeps the option to go back for many
versions to come.

I've spent the past 2 weeks with the ribbon as I always try to embrace
change rather than dismiss it out of hand.
However, I found using the ribbon required a lot more clicks of the mouse to
get to where I wanted and it also took up too much of the screen.
So in the end I have been forced to re-adopt the 2008 style menus and
toolbars to keep productivity up. With the classic menu, everything I need
is just one click away.

I went with The Ribbon since it was "The greatest thing thing string cheese!".. However, I set it up as a super "Dashboard" which, 2 versions ago, was the "greatest thing since string cheese!"

I have it docked to the right side, with the Home Tab set up with the most used commands and panels. Works a treat- always there and no extra picking to find what I want. It helps to have a wide screen monitor though.

I did the same at the beginning of the Ribbon and Menu Browser... it was sucky for many common things such as the "window" pulldown to switch drawings...

However, I did like the graphical 'recent drawings'...

I've found that hitting ALT+R (Thanks Kate M) to access the menu browser eliminated the extra click, and is an operation that is done in the small time it takes me to look to the upper-left corner, thus making it seem like just looking at it... expands it Then I'm free to click away.

I find that the ribbon, though brought many tools to easy access that once required toolbars or menus or hotkey memorization that I didn't have time for... and many things I just didn't use often enough to make it worth hotkeying.

I customized some tabs and panels, and created more and find it's awesome to have all that at my fingertips... I still use the keyboard for the majority of things, but some commands that are sporadically issued or contain large macros and whatnot... are great for ribbon'ing

I'm curious... what is ALT+R supposed to do. I hit ALT+R and nothing happens.
