AutoCAD 2007/2008/2009 DWG Format

I was having the same problem. I don't know the cause or the "real" fix but try clicking "ignore". As soon as I clicked that instead of "abort" or "retry", my layer manager reverted to normal.

Unfortunately, in my case, "Ignore" just loops around and returns to the same error message.

I've been in correspondence with AutoDesk, and discussions have pointed to this being a registry problem, although the exact problem or its cause have not yet been identified.

They've asked me to try a few things with regedit, but I haven't had the time to do this yet.

I'm curious if Mike Dickason has figured out what this problem is. I am having a similar problem - but only certain drawings. As soon as the layer properties palette is opened I get the error message. AutoCAD does not crash - but there is no way to get away from the error message without ending the task in task manager. The following is the error message I receive:

I've been having this problem for months.
I use 2008 Civil 3D. We thought we had it figured out, but then IS updated Microsoft and it started all over again. It seems to be more prevalent in the moorings. I'd be glad to have any ideas on how to fix this problem.

This happens so often that I know if autocad is going to crash by the order that the error boxes appear. Try pulling down the filter property box, sometimes this will keep it from crashing or at least give you one more command to let you save before you crash.

I was shown a method to fix this problem in the registry. But the registry will always reset itself. So it would need to be modified every morning when you come in. It's just a temporary fix. I personally have had to give up on AutoCAD 2009. Like yourself I needed to get stuff done, and could not be bothered with all the problems, therefore I have retreated to back to 2008. Much more stable for me.
It was Mike Dickason (from Autodesk) that gave me the info about the registry. I got a hold of him through this thread. I know this is not much help, but all I can tell you is that AutoCAD is aware of the problem and are trying to find a fix.

Our IS guy that has been helping me, he had me end a process through Task Manager. I can't remember what the file name was, it started with a WC_ i think, and it seemed to help if I would end this process before I picked the layer properties box. But then...................... we updated windows, and it started all over again.

He had written a routine that would remove the file every 15 min. There was still a bug in it so he wouldn't give it to me to share. Maybe I should have him check on that again.

We had a similar problem. Don't know if it is the same but it is easy to try and can't hurt. We found that if you go into Control Panel - Regional and Language Options. Change the Language from English (United States) to another english say English (United Kingdom). Click Ok. Now go back in and save it back to English (United States). That will fix the .Net error that comes up when Layer Manager is selected. It worked on a similar issue we had in 2008. Hope it works.
