what is the ideal pen widths for architectural elements?

You won't find a specific answer here. It's mostly based on each offices standards.

Try drafting rules of thumb.
All dimesioning extension lines should print lighter lineweight than the
drawing elements. The title block and schedules should stand out.
We use a different color for hidden lines when plotting,...this is a taboo
in a lot of offices because of black and white print outs.

Printed line weights can also vary from one printing machine to another. You will simply need to test what looks good and legible for the machine(s) you have.

Depending on where you are, look up your national standards
organisation's technical drawing standard. It will have all this and
more.
