Hi,
I have received a drawing with dimension's text upside down.
Is there a way to rotate dim text 180 degrees?
Thanks

Assuming you're not looking at the drawing upside down, check the text style used for dimensions and verify that the orientation is proper.

Verify that someone didn't get lazy and cooy and rotate a dimension instead of creating a new one.

There's reason for the text being upside down.

First thank you for your reply.
I'm sorry for not explained it better yesterday, Yes there is a reason for the text being upside down. Dimensions are done in the model space and they look fine but in the paper space people who draw this had rotated the view in a viewport. Because of that rotation dimensions turned out upside down.
I did new dimensioning yesterday but I was wondering is there something I can do if I receive dwg like this again.

macha: I don't think anything can be done about people being stupid. There is no way of automatically realigning dimension text that I'm aware of.

I would have left the viewport alone and rotated and redimensioned the object in model space.

Yes, that would be one way of solving the problem.

Depending on the Dimension Style, you could select the dimensions and use Properties to change the text rotation. Numbers other than 0 will override text aligned to the element and rotate the text relative to the original view rotation. This could fix things, or it could make them worse.

anim8er,

where exactly are these dimension properties located at ? because as far as I am concerned, there is a text editor in Inventor which allows you to edit dimension values as text. Unfortunately, however, it only provides the means for adding more text and/or symbols, as well as simply writting the dimension value in manually while hiding the real value. I have yet to see how the software allows the user to rotate the actual dimension text itself. Please explain or further clarify your comment ASAP.

Thanks.

Even though this is an extremely old thread, it sounds like a rotated view in a viewport is causing text to appear to be upside down. I know in newer versions you can highlight the dimension and then in Properties manager you can make it read right-to-left and below the line, and that might fix it for you. Fix one and then use Painter to change the rest :smileyhappy:

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted :smileyhappy:

Bob Zurunkle,

I really dont understand what is meant by properties manager. As far as i am concerned, inventor has "dimension styles" and in there you can make several changes which are somewhat similar to what I want to do, but not exactly allowing me to read left-to-right or viceversa. It seems to establish some kind of default orientation and I cannot find a way to change this. Please extrapolate on the properties manager that you mentioned. I am currently working on Inventor 2010. I have never seen a properties manager for drawing documents within inventor. I have, however, seen that in Autocad. Unfortunately I am trying to solve this problem within Inventor.

Thanks.
