    Layer states in view ports

Is there a system in place to use "lman" or "layer state" for each viewport i.e. if I wanted floor, ceiling, roof plans on the same sheet.
We set up our xref plan with Lman (floor, ceiling, etc..) however, if we have multiple type plans on a sheet we cannot use that lman control in the view ports.

Is there a system variable or procedure for this?

I know you said "same sheet", so I assume you have multiple viewports in one
    layout.

If by chance you meant that you want to set a layer state when you switch
    layouts, see http://www.dotsoft.com/loswitch.htm

There is a procedure, but it ain't pretty:

On the rare (thankfully) occasion when I need to see different layers in
different viewports in the same layout, I will use duplicate xrefs that are
named differently in each viewport. This requires renaming an xref
attachment and then xrefing the same drawing in again with a different xref
name for each occurrence. By changing the name, you change the prefix, thus
having unique layer names for each xref occurrence. It can become something
of a management nightmare, but its the only way I know of to change a
layer's visibility across multiple viewports within the same layout tab.

You are correct. We xref a plan into a "sheet" that has our border info from which we plot. On that we may have several view ports. In this example we want to show four different plans on one sheet layout. Currently we xref the plan in and freeze/thaw each layer individually in each viewport.
Is there a way to utilize a "lman" type command in view ports to simply choose a pre selected group of layers without changing the layer state of every viewport?
We use lman in the xref to toggle from the various plans in the working drawing.

VPLAYER controls visibility of layers in individual viewports.

Vplayer settings within individual unique viewports cannot be saved with a
layer state or layer manager (I think that was the original question).

If you need to save/recall a layer state to different viewports within the
same layout, the only method I know of is the multiple xref method I
mentioned below. This method is especially suitable if you need to change
    color/linetypes, not just on/off.

You could look into running scripts to accomplish this.

Use the "LAYER FILTERS" - and FREEZE in the "CURRENT" Viewport

I have used scripts in the past and am trying to change to layer filters. (Our company is trying to eliminate scripts - not everyone understands them.) I ended up creating a layer filter for each viewport.

    -Layer
-New Properties Filter (In the filter definition you can add the layers you want to show and how you want them to show. For example, *ceiling* will show all layers containing the word ceiling.)

After you list all your layers, you need to highlight the name of the filter and right click it then choose:

    -Isolate Group
    -Active Viewport Only

Your layer filter will apply to the viewport that is active. The nice thing is that if you add layers to your xref, unwanted layers will automatically be filtered out.

However, for some reason the viewport does not automatically refresh when things are added - you have to go back to Layer Properties Manager, right click your filter, Isolate Group, Active Viewport Only. (I have not figured out to get the viewport to refresh automatically after information is added.)
