Dear Friends:
My AutoCAD freezes VERY often while using the 3D ORBIT command with my 3D
models. It just stops responding, no crashes, no error messages, and no way
to get out of the orbit command ... The only solution is to kill the process
via task manager... And invariably lose all unsaved changes...
I'm using AutoCAD 2002. I already tried to change the Display acceleration
options (software X hardware). Haven't got a clue of what could be causing
it.
Since this same crash has happened to other people in my office, with
different hardware configurations, here are my questions:
A) Have any of you experienced similar problems?
B) Any suggestions on how to fix it? (Other than not using the ORBIT...)
Thanks in Advance!

I have seen similar behavior. Steps we took to minimize the problem
+ Set the acceleration to software.
+ Wait until the orbit circle appears on screen before trying to "orbit"
[What that means is while running orbit on a complex drawing (say with hundreds of thousands of 3Dfaces) - it takes AutoCAD a while to get orbit going and generate the "orbit circle" on the screen - if we moved the mouse prior to this (trying to start rotating the view) - it almost always crashed or locked up. If we waited until the "orbit circle" appeared and AutoCAD was through generating the geometry on screen, it did not fail near as often.] No hard facts on this - just something we noticed.

It happens....
As a precaution, always save your work before doing a 3d-orbit

What happens? Who said anything about not saving?

I had the same problem.
Do you use XTABS from www.caddzone.com? If you do, make sure you have
downloaded the latest version. The previous version caused AutoCAD to lock
up every time I did a 3D-ORBIT.
Hope this Helps

We have the same problems with 3D Orbit crashing our computers. Some of us have just upgraded to p4 3.2 G dell computers. Our old 1.7 gig dells had no problems.
Whats the deal?
I uninstalled x-tabs... but still get crashes.
