Bigfonts are mostly just a holdover from the early days of .shx fonts, since
the original font files were very limited in scope (before the introduction
of Unicode). If you can get along without them, you're probably well
advised to do so, since they can complicate the process of collaboration
where .dwg files are exchanged between collaborators.
