Text alignment w/ MTEXT

Can anyone help me w/ this problem ?? I have a mtext block and I am using simplex as my font.
I am using this mtext block for notes on a construction document so it is numbered i.e.; 1. then text
2. then more text and so on and so on. Well the problem is this when I place the number for each note
in front how do i get the the first letter of the remaining text to line up vertically so as I input more notes
are input the first line of text doesn't meander back and forth. Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!!!

Here are the different methods that text can be stacked within an MText object:

1#2 = Text stacked diagonally with a line separator.

1/2 = Text stacked horizontally with a line separator

1^2 = Text stacked horizontally without a line separator (aka "Tolerance")

3^ = Superscripted text (eg. 3.0m3)

^2 = Subscripted text (eh. H2O)

Once you enter the code, simply highlight the characters to be changed, and then click the A/B button.

For even more control, right-click on the stacked text (while it's highlighted within the Mtext editor) and select Properties from the shortcut menu to open the Stack Properties dialog box.

I am talking about an example such as below:

1. ALL DIMENSIONS ARE TO FACE OF FINISHED PARTITION U.N.O.
REFER TO ENLARGED PLANS AND/OR ELEVATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL
DIMENSIONS, AS REQUIRED.
2. ALL DOORS SHALL BE LOCATED AT A DISTANCE OF 6" MEASURED
FROM THE NEAREST ADJACENT PARTITION TO THE INSIDE EDGE
OF THE JAMB AT HINGE EDGE. U.N.O.
3. MINIMUM 18" CLEARANCE IS REQUIRED ON PULL SIDE OF DOOR,
AND 12" ON PUSH SIDE, FROM STRIKE EDGE TO ANY
OBSTRUCTION PER ANSI AND ADA REQUIREMENTS.

see how all the text lines up vertically after the period
of the note number ?? how can i do this using simplex in mtext ????

It's called R2004: Mtext now does tabs, like most word processors.

Thanks Dean, but I already knew about 2004.
We don't have it loaded yet though. I know
it can be done in 2002 and prior versions
because AEC firms having been showing it
on cad drawings for years.

They've been using two different pieces of text, one for the numbers and on for the notes. PITB, and a waste of time. We simply add an empty line between each note and don't worry about lining them vertically.

Never without an add-on, or counting spaces, or Pasting OLE links, or direct
Mtext paste from a word processor with no editing afterwards. We all have
beaten that topic to death since text was an AutoCAD option 😉
