Max text length

In some of our AutoCad R14 drawing files, we have text strings over 256
characters. In AutoCad 2000 we can't edit those strings exceeding 256
characters.

Does anybody know how to increase the 256 maximum characters in a single
text string ? Is there a system variable for this ?

I was able to duplicate your problem in DDEDIT in 2002. It appears an
Autodesk programmer applied a limit to that edit dialog that shouldn't
apply to TEXT objects.

As a workaround, you can use the PROPS dialog and select the text.
Although the editor is somewhat less appealing, it will accept long
strings. I believe the limits is 2048 characters.

Of course there are other text editing tools out there and a custom
routine could be created.

I believe most patches only come in the form of a new release ($$$)
these days.
