Georeferencing/ Importing GPS Data

Can anyone point me in the right direction to learn how to import GPS points into AutoCAD and georeference them to an image so that the points are located at the correct coordinates on the image?

What does your coordinate file look like? If its not lat/long it should be fairly simple to import. Terry

I can take positions in either State Plane or Lat/Long. Most are in Lat/Long. I've been able to export lat/long positions from Pathfinder office as a .dxf file, but the coordinates then do not match with aerial photos brought in as raster images. Is there a step I'm missing?

Can you explain what you mean by positioning the image on State Plane? Is that something I do when inserting the aerial as a raster image? My CAD knowledge is very basic, sorry!

Yes, You are missing something. Does the 'image.tif' have an extra file such as image.TWF the .?WF file should have the coordinates & scaling of the image that you want to import, you can use those to figure out where to place the image in the drawing manually, BUT, be fore warned, if the image coordinates or notes say something like "UTM Zone 12 S with NAD83" then you HAVE to import the dxf coordinate in the same format or they won't match. That I know of, standard AutoCAD doesn't handle Lat Lon: Lat Lon is a spherical coordinate system & AutoCAD is cartesian coordinates based. Autodesk MAP works a lot better to overlay raster images & coordinates, especially if you have to convert one coordinate system to another or to digitize the image. You might check their forum.

I would recommend looking at either Autodesk's MAP, Field Survey or Land Desktop... or at least look at, search through or ask in those product's discussion groups. http://www.autodesk.com/map www.autodesk.com/fieldsurvey http://www.autodesk.com/landdesktop -- Tracy W. Thank you, I will see if I can figure out how that works!
