Dimscale problems - randomly changes to 96?

I have a strange problem, as do others in my office.

We have drawings at 1/2" = 1'-0" scale, so our scale factor is "24". In some of the drawings (not all of them) the Dimscale will change to "96", typically after copying an object from one location to another.

I've checked my dimension styles, purged any that aren't used, and can't find anything that would cause this.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm lost, and it's such a pain to continuously have to reset my Dimscale to "24".

Thanks for any help,

One other oddity. At the same time the Dimscale changes to "96", it resets my units (I typically use Architectural units) to decimals.

Hopefully this will aid in someone figuring out this silly problem!

Thanks again,

Let me guess, you received this file from a consultant?

Bet he used one of the vertical products like Architectural desktop. It inserts a
drawing setup that keeps things at as they are setup. I don't remember what the fix is.

Do a search of this news group looking for dimscale. You will probably find an answer.

Thanks Mike.

Unfortunately, I don't use this forum too often, and I'll be darned if I can find a "search" function.

Wanna give me a clue?

Nevermind! I just realized how to search here. Didn't know I had to go back to the Product Center.

I did a quick search for dimscale problems and can't find my solution...yet.

Thanks again!

stevetatro,

At http://discussion.autodesk.com/ you can search the newsgroups for
previously posted questions. Put keywords in the blank box and then chose
search for "last 3 days, last 2 weeks, last 3

months or all". Search will bring up a list of newsgroup messages matching
the text you provide in the search box. By using the Autodesk server search
engine you will be searching all available

messages not just those on your local newsgroup cache.

Put in the specific words like UNIT RESET as the search words and chose

All for the time length of the search.

Clicking on an individual topic listed in the search findings will
spread out the messages in that topic in a tree formation.

The topics are listed by date with the newest date at the top.

Hope this helps you in future questions.

Chris,

Thanks for the links. I had already found the item pertaining to the dimscale changing.

I notice that both of these only reference versions up to 2000i, as if it doesn't occur in any more recent versions, but I'm using AutoCAD 2002.

Also, I notice that those in our office using version 2004 can't duplicate the problems I'm having, even when trying in the same drawing.

Any more help you can provide would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

In the past, with LT'97 I had a great deal of difficulty with
Paperspace dimensions forgetting their scale factors. However, in that
case they were defaulting to a linear scale factor of 1. In our case,
the best we could do was to speculate that the problems was caused by
some drawing file corruption, which caused other problems as well (eg.
Viewports forgetting their hide setting).

I am also getting file corruption in the full version of 2002, and
it has manefested some of the same problems as when I was on LT'97.
One was an unjustified file size, which kept growing. Our support
company speculated that this was caused by AutoCAD not purging the
display cache. When we followed their procedure to force it to purge
out, the viewports which were forgetting their hide settings suddenly
remembered their hide setting. Unfortunately, later efforts to fix
the lack of display cache purging were unsuccessful. So, we are
essentially stuck with the situation. I've not seen the paperspace
linear scale factor problem (yet), but past experience with having to
re-do some manufacturing because of bad dimensions, I've essentially
abandoned paperspace dimensions. Another reason to suspect paperspace
dimensions are the long list for which the transpacial dimensions
don't work.

If I use paperspace dimensions, I always verify the true length, and
then explode the dimension to prevent it from changing on its own.
