Crossing window not working

I'm having this trouble with my crossing window where if I start my window
then zoom in tight on an area and finish the command (Erase for example),
anything outside the now viewable area is not included in my selection.

Any ideas on what I did and how to fix it?

For what I can remember, I believe this situation has always existed. Has it
worked for you in the past?

AFAIK, it has always worked this way. I don't believe you can "fix" it.

"If it is not still on the screen it is not still selected" Just go with that slogan until they fix it, someday. Bob

PS__ I think there are some commands for which this is not true, (heat stroke today!) but it holds for what you are asking.

use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out, you can select objects, zoom
around, select more, zoom some more, and erase or whatever... try it out...
does not work with real time pan.....

Hold the shift key for multiple picks.

I guess I just never noticed it before. I can select a set, then zoom,
select, then zoom, finish and all is good. Maybe that's what I usually do.
But now that I notice it, it's a complete pain and I'd call it a bug. Why
would anyone_want_ it to work this way?

Actually I find it a bit disturbing when I have something selected do a zoom and select something else, forgetting the previous selection, and then erase only to find later that I erased something that I did not intend to erase. So I really prefer to only erase what it visable on the screen.

Steve,

On numerous occasions I've had users complain about things disappearing from their drawing and I suspect this is the culprit. For the inexperienced (newbie) user this can be a major problem at times. And, as I mentioned, it even catches me occasionally.

That is how it works in r14.

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about picking one group of objects, then
zooming in and picking another group of objects (eg click-drag-click, zoom
with scroll wheel, click-drag-click, enter). This method holds the previous
selection set and adds the next so both are included in the command.

I'm talking about starting a selection set by window or crossing, zooming in
and finishing the selection then finishing the command (eg click-drag, zoom
with scroll wheel, drag-click, enter). This includes only those items
visible in the zoomed-in area. All items that should have been included in
the selection set before zooming are excluded.

I remeber reading about this somewhere before, and I believe somebody from
Autodesk said that is just the way it works. You can only do a crossing
window over objects that are visible on the screen. If you pan or zoom, the
window doesnot pick up the objects outside of your view.
If it is not on screen, you can't select it.
