AutoCAD to .tif

Hi,

Anyone creating .tif output from AutoCAD? (So the .tif represents a plotted
sheet, with lineweights etc.)

I'd like to hear how you're doing it and what's working for you.

We're using eQuorum's Plot Station and .tif output driver, which works
great, but I'm looking for a solution for smaller offices who can't justify
an investment in Plot Station. AutoCAD's raster output is not good quality.

I know .pdf and .dwf are options too.

TIA,
Bruce

The only way I've gotten decent quality TIF from a cad
drawing is to print the drawing then scan it in. Works if
you don't have a plotter or if you have a large format
scanner.

We just use a laser printer and only need to scan in
8-1/2x11 and other "pictures". When we do need to scan in a
larger drawing we use a "repro" place to scan in the large
format stuff. It's pretty cheap and if you don't have to do
a ton it's probably the best solution as you don't have to
invest in a large scanner or plotter or expensive software
to get decent raster output from Autocad.

Oh yea. You can try printing to PDF (using the distiller
not the PDF printer driver) then use Photoshop to open the
PDF and save that to a different format. I got decent
quality GIFs out of DWGs that way. You're still looking at
~$600 for PS and ~$200 for Acrobat.

I'm no apologist for AutoDesk, but what is wrong with Acad's raster output?
Just create a custom sheet size, ie. 3600 x 5400 pixels or higher.

Bruce, plot to file using a PostScript driver (I prefer the Windows driver
from Adobe)
then convert the PostScript files to tiff with GhostScript (and GSView if
you want a friendlier user interface).
