AutoCAD 2002

Hello,

Maybe somebody knows how to import:
1.* .STL
2.* .UNIV
3.*.IGES file in to AutoCAD

Solid model drawing is made with IDEAS software, but when it is exported in
to AutoCAD *.DXF format it appears in 2D instead of 3D. What could be the
problem?

Thank you!

Tomas

IGES files can be imported if you have AutoCAD Mechanical.
The 2D DXF was possibly 'cause they exported from a 2D drawing, not the 3D
model.
DXF has some 3D capability but I really wouldn't recommend it, very faceted.
If you are getting a lot of 3D models, I'd get either AutoCAD Mechanical, which
will give you IGES,
or (best bet) Mechanical Desktop, which will give you STEP import capability.

To expand on the response from Sam,

Vanilla ACAD will IMPORT ACIS 6 (.SAT)

BTW, .STL is for Stereolithography (3D Printer) and there is no support from
Vanilla ACAD. .UNIV (?) there is no support from Vanilla ACAD.

I am working in NT at the moment and am formatting the hard drives to
free up space, install windows 2000 and then reinstall autocad. Is there
any problems or procedures i need to do to not have problems later on.
any info would be appreciated, thanks

If you are using any older components, be sure to check for BIOS/firmware
updates. After you install Win 2k, install service pack 2. Then install your
video driver with the latest version. Install AutoCAD, any service packs,
and configure the program. The simpler and cleaner you keep your system, the
fewer problems. Good luck.
