Rigged a laser scanned person

I have to create a character of a person wearing specilist equipment. I was thinking of laser scanning or use 123d catch to capture the person instead of modelling from scratch the person and equipment.

Has anybody succesfully modelled and riged a laser scan or 123D catch character.

Hello.

You can go ahead and use these technologies, however the mesh will be highly tessellated and will also be very heavy.

Since rigging/skinning works on the vertices, this will work as is, however depending on what you want to do, the mesh may need to be optimized.

In a gaming environment, (because the mesh is quite reduced)

you may want to retopologise the mesh in Mudbox:

You then extract a normal map from the high res to the low if you want to keep the high res details when rendered or previewed in real time.

Thanks for your feedback. Thats brillient. I never considered mudbox. I suppose I could also bake out the map from the scanned model and apply it to a populate character.

Retopologize has an option to transfer the paint Layers to the reduced mesh.
