Help on Flipping Effect

Hello,

Take a look at the opening animation from this video:

Does anybody have a clue on how did they put the flipping effect on the triangles, but still maintaining the smooth on the mesh.

I know you can get the flipping effect with the Animator's Toolkit (the only way I know to achieve this), but you can't maintain the smoothing factor.
