what's the heck's causing it?

I know it's not very noticable here but it's really hurting my eyes - compare the text in the align window to the text on the "align options"

Can't see any difference.

Are you running your graphics card at maximum resolution? Is it full HD?

Is your hardware qualified to run alias? What Graphics card do you have?

I had similar problems with all Alias versions up to 2010.

I was using Nvidia FX products all the time.

I had to turn off anti aliasing in the grafics card and i must not use hardware aa under WindowDisplay>AntiAlias>ShadedAntiAlias>Options...

That was it, a quick Nvidia 3D settings change (FXAA off, antialiasing set to application controlled) and now it's sharp again
