Hi everyone,

I have a question about using Excel charts. It's nice to try and get the
automation of Excel into AutoCAD, but it is difficult to figure out. I have
a chart done up in Excel...not too big. about 25 rows & maybe 12 columns.
When inserted, you don't get to see the whole chart, only a small portion of
it. If I close the drawing and then reopen it, the whole chart is visible,
but it has tons of empty cells to make it (the chart) square shaped. I have
no idea how to get R2000 to only display a certain range of cells. Is there
even a way to do this? It's driving me nuts!

Hi,

To display the data contained in the Excel spreadsheet, there must be at
least one named range of cells. This name corresponds to a table name in
Access and is displayed under the Tables branch of the Data Source.
Create at least one named range of cells in the Excel spreadsheet (do not
use DATABASE or other reserved words when naming the cell range).
Important: When you select a range of cells to name, select one row and one
column either side of the extents of the data in the range you are naming.
Otherwise, even though the name of the range is shown as a table below the
Data Source in the Project Manager; there is no content
when the table is opened.

To create a named range of cells in Microsoft Excel, select the cells and
then name them using the Name Box to the left of the formula bar. When you
attach an Excel file with at least one named range of cells, there is a
table with the relative fields and values in the Data Sources section of the
Project Workspace. This table represents the named range of cells.

I think he is doing a pasted OLE link rather than a database-type lookup.

Brian,

OLE in acad is crummy. Paste special as autocad entities for the best look (& no
link) or look into add-on programs such as at http://www.dotsoft.com Perhaps
with the next release oc acad... I don't believe 2000 fixes this situation?

Actually, there are two to blame. Microsoft is addressing some known issues
with OLE in Windows 2000, while Autodesk is working on some issues with OLE
in the next release of AutoCAD (I'm told by unnamed sources). One of these
"issues" relates to the problems of plot rotation with embedded or linked
OLE objects such as Word and Excel documents or clips.
