leave the command panel docked why do you newbies have to mess around with the max and it's interface unless you know what you doing! if you undock it then you cause a whole lot of problems so leave it alone! the only way to get it back to the RT handside is by double clicking it and it should snap back to the RT handside

if you want to custom 3ds max go to custom, custom UI and default switcher,

the last restore is to delete the max.ini file!

Hi ShivanTobi,

On the Command Panel, there is a little space on the right side of the tabs, if you right-click there you should get a sub-menu to dock to either left or right.

Hopefully this can fix your issue.

Also, these preferences are saved per user, so re-installing Max will have not effect.

You can go in your local:

C:\Users\ <user> \AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\

and delete the folder \2017 -64bit\ folder.

Restart Max, it should now be the same as the very first time you installed it!

I hope this can help!

Hello @ShivanTobi and welcome to the community!

@ads_royje is absolutely correct, reinstalling won't actually help with settings as they are saved separately.  Did his post help you resolve this?  Is the command panel back on the right side now?  Thanks very much for the update!

Best Regards,
