You must install as Admin. LUAs don't have permission to install system processes like .net, MR and BackBurner.

Is User Account Control turned ON or OFF?
Not sure about this but it may be some sort of authentication failure:

As stated above, could be a lack of full authorization to install into the selected folder:

Suggestion:
Go to the folder where the installer is trying to install Max, right click, go to Properties, Security and check if your authorization is right there.

Yes full permission right through C:\

Ok, just to be sure, you did check the actual root folder where the installer is trying to install, right?
Has the installer already created a Max 2008 root folder?

Is UAC on or off, is it asking if you are the one initiating the install?

No it has not. It has installed backburner in C:\Program Files\autodesk But no Max folder anywhere.
Tried installing both UAC on and off

It's only going to ask you for confirmation if UAC is on, just wondering whether it was on or not.
I keep it off.
The only information I have found is based on the error codes in your log file which I posted above (previous page) and the three things it mentions there:

1) Encrypted drive
2) Substitute drive
3) Lack of full permission

yes UAC is off (recomended by Autodesk) and I have already sourced the same error info as you.
Thanks for your time, I'ii keep searching!

I didn't have any problems what so ever installing the 2008 trial, I used the 32bit on vista ult. 32bit, are you using the 64bit or something?

mayby you should extract the files from the zipper and burn them on a disk with the autorun file?

I've seen it before where they ask "insert disk" eventhough the disk is inserted, so when you copy the files to the HD and start it from there, it installs without problems?.. (reverse psychology in software) or redownload the trial mayby something went wrong?

Hi.
In the installation manual you can read that the User Account Control must be turned OFF during the installation and the normal use of max. Try to check it.
