Using the Wheel, crashes Max 2012 every time...

Every time i try to use the Wheel on a viewport, very soon after it crashes Max to the desktop.
I'm using Max 2012 64bit, Win7, i7 980, 24GB Ram, GTX280...
Anyone else?

i wouldn't use it... it truly is "useless"... it's one of the "DUMBING DOWN" max features.

I hope this bug is the lowest priority on the bug fix list.

It'll be one of the first things they fix, you watch, because Autodesk products simply MUST have a viewcube and steering wheel, even if nobody wants to use them, like the caddies. Unlike the caddies, you can disable them.

oh yeah, every time, the only thing is to disable the driver,
but all the new features of the display will disappear,
I return to the 2011 version ...
and for the love of God if it works on other versions do not say you are not using this,
I find it pathetic solution
(I say this because the comments below)

I never use the viewcube or steering wheel either and decided to give them a try by walking through the navigating a scene tutorial. Playing with the inner commands on the wheel (center, walk, look, up/down) crashes the software.

Agreed! The steering wheels are very useless. Luckily I learned to navigate the scene using the keyboard commands in combination with the buttons and scroll wheel on the mouse. It's a much better way to navigate the scene.

Even better is to score a 3D navigation device from http://www.3dconnexion.com/

They are a bit pricey but worth every penny! An extremely reliable adjunct for your 3D arsenal of goodies 🙂

I've had my Space Pilot now for 5 yrs and it's still going strong!

I have one of the less expensive (space navigator) ones and I never have been able to get it to do anything like what I want it to do. Does the one you have give more predictable/satisfactory results?

I LOVE my space Pilot!! I have had it for almost 5 years. Very predictable results. When they claim that it will increase your productivity...they are completely correct. Customer service is good and the product is fantastic. Worth every penny.

James...what sort of "unpredictability" are you having?

had the steering wheel crash once today. i just tested it i normaly don´t use it.

fuzzy tentakles and another max demo scene i don´t rememeber crashes here when rendering.

well this new max 2012 experience is a PITA so far (our installation issues especially).
