.stp import stick thingies

I was recently given a .stp file and imported it into 3ds 2013. I think it will work, but I have two questions:

1) What are all the pick-up stick things for and how do I turn them off?

2) A couple of the product parts look like they did not come in properly

3) Is there a better way to import .stp files, or perhaps a translator of some sort?

Thank You.

a) could you probably upload the file?

b) if i experience importing troubles, i use inventor to import the step file. then i import directly from inventor to 3dsmax.

c) check the npower step importer. this is the best step importer i currently know

Here you go.  Turns out they are "Point Helpers". I can select them and delete them.

I tried opening it in Inventor Fusion and all I see is a cam lock. Weird.

Thanks

UPDATE:  I opened the step in Inventor professional and then exported to Inventor. I then imported the Inventor file(s) back into 3ds, and it looks terrific!  Thanks for your help.
