save as archive and max version text

if I want to save an archive to an older max version this is almost impossible because I don't see the right version... http://c2n.me/72jGP2.png

is this fixed in the next version?

thanks

You can only save up to 3 versions back from the one you're using.
Max 2013 can save as 2012, 2011, 2010. Max 2014 can save as 2013, 2012, 2011.
This is likely because the Subscription Licensing allows you to continue using up to 3 previous releases and so the number of available previous versions is not likely to change. 2015 will probably allow 2014, 2013, 2012.

nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).

yes I know and that's a nice feature of max... but taht's not the point. have you checked the link http://c2n.me/72jGP2.png

if you want to archive then you can not see which version you will save... that's the problem!

confirmed here too.

As a workaround usually what I do is save the whole scene as a previous version, open that and then saveas archive.

😮 I did look at it but didn't notice the missing version numbers, sorry. It's the same here btw.
Report it as a bug. They're probably in the same sequence as in the File > SaveAs (current version at the top of the list).

Yes, this has been a musical bug for me. I have decided to always assume that I've saved the correct version. But my favorite solution is just tell others to update to my version of Max 🙂

It is a bug just not the one you're thinking. Basically the Archive tool doesn't support the save to previous functionality. The bug is that you have 4 options in the drop down which are all the same.

That being said I logged a wishlist for this on your behalf because it would be nice if it did support previous versions.

As a workaround you could do a normal "save as" as the version you want and then use that as a replacement for the max file in the archive.

Also for those of you that may not already know, if you want to make a suggestion or have an idea of how to improve max you can submit there here:

Hi darawork. You need to do it the other way around, otherwise you'll end up with a v2014 in your archive.

1) Save as Archive (zip)
2) Open the Archive and open the Max file
3) Save As previous version (i.e. v2012) and overwrite the v2014 file in the Archive
4) Close the Archive (zip it)

This is how I do it - quite similar to Bens suggestion.
