rotate viewcube 45 degrees?

hi, changing the location of north doesn't seem to help because viewcube always rotates the view 90 degree and i need it to rotate only 45 degrees.  is there a way to set the viewcube rotation increment?  thx.

what's strange is you can rotate the viewcube 45 degrees in elevation view, but not in plan view.  ideas?

Hello,

I have investigated your request on having the Viewcube rotate by 45 degree increments.

This is now logged as a feature improvement with our engineers.

Good idea to have option to control the amount of degrees.

Thank you for taking the time to submit this.

Best Regards

VR

IMHO never use the viewcube... Just disable viewcube...

jens.diemer We are talking about a UCS system like in AutoCAD, it is important to be exist in 3dsMax as well

I don't know what "UCS system" is and i don't really understand what you needed...

Maybe: Create a new grid object, rotate 45° and use it as a grid?!?

Using Grids: http://help.autodesk.com/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/3DSMax/files/GUID-9666CF2E-BDAD-4148-86FB-17E5477D0426.h...

(But i never would model objects rotated to 45° 😉 )

The view cube has 6 sides, 8 corners, and 12 edges.  If you are viewing one of the principal planes (front, right, ...) then clicking on one of the view cube edges will rotate the view 45°. If you are viewing one of the edges then clicking one of the principal planes will give yield a 45° rotation.  The eight isometric views are accessed by clicking one of the view cube corners. You can make a 45° rotation from an isometric view to of the other view cube standard views by clicking the appropriate edge or side.

You may want to set the view cube default to orthographic (not perspective) and uncheck Keep Scene Upright in the ViewCube tab of Views, View Cube, Configure... .

jens.diemer I'm an architect I work with 3dsMax since 2003 and in our plans some walls are rotated with a lot of different degrees not only the 45° that you are trying to give me a solution for it I already know a lot of solutions but I'm talking about some thing faster, easier and should be exist in 3dsmax
so I can rotate the viewport to match the angle of my wall model so it would be easier to design and work with it's details in plan and in the elevation as well.

This may not be the easiest method for viewing an angled wall straight on but it works!

  1. Add a free camera to your scene.
  2. Click Tools, Align, Align Camera and then click the wall.
  3. Type C to change to camera view.
  4. Click Views, View Cube, Orthographic
  5. Click Views, View Cube, set Current View as Front.
  6. You can return to this view by click Front on the view cube.  Unfortunately, this is an Orthographic view so you may have difficulty creating geometry in this view.
