Projection Modeling

Has anyone been able to find a modifier or plugin that allows you to use the projection modifier that you use in NURBS modeling? But use it on Poly's instead? Theres a technique while modeling NURBS where you can project a spline onto a surface and that surface will acquire that spline projection and integrate it into itself. Anyone know what Im talking about? Thanks. Would be an awesome modifier for Poly modeling.

Not sure what type of projection you need.

ShapeMerge Compound object inside Max.

Glue from Itoosoft

Ill give an example. I have a fender on a car that I want to add a marker light too. A circular light. I made the light first. Now I want to "carve" out a depression in the fender without using boolean due to its downfalls. While using NURBS, I can copy the back edge of the light and convert it to a spline. Now Ive got an exact template of the back of the light. I can project that spline onto the cars fender and the fender will incorporate the projected image of the spline into itself. I can use that spline image now to give me an exact marker where I need to extrude poly's in the negative in order to make room or "carve" for the new marker light. Was just wondering if there was a way to do it using poly's instead?
