Manage Scene States Dialog Missing

Hi,

I know that this issue has already been reported, but I can't solve it and it's driving me mad..

The scene states manages does not pop up and is not marked as ticked.

Not from the menu, not from the quad menu.

I deleted 3dsmax.ini and all actual updates are installed.

It's 3DS Design ver. 2013..

I'd be glad for any help (as long as it's not trying a complete reinstall- it's the factory design suite and loads of plugins installed, too..)

Niko

Did you try to "repair" the instalation?

Pro Tip: You can just re-install one of the components from the suite.

Well, thanks for both replies.

I had no time to focus on this problem the last days.

I just wanted to try a repair installation- but how to find it?

The factory suite installer gives me no option for changing or repairing components (just says already installed) and in windows start menu there no one as well..

Maybe I missed something?

Because I'd do a repair install first, I don't have the time to do a complete installation as this takes the half day to set up everything properly..

go to the uninstall menu of your computer and beside 3ds max you will see the option to uninstall or repair

Thanks, found the repair option.

But it didn't fix the problem, installation was repaired but the problem still exists, no Scene State Manager.

This is bad.. I don't have the time to completely uninstall the program due to all plugins I'd need to reinstall too..

If there's no other solution I think it will have to wait.

Well, I found it in the TOOLS menu> Manage Scene States, but not in the floating menu.

Has anyone solved this problem yet?  I've got 2014 and it still seems to be a problem.   I have tried deleting the 3DSmax.ini file and letting it recreate itself, as well as completed a repair installation.

The "Manage Scene States" button is still not being checked after clicking it, and the dialogue itself is nowhere to be found.

Thanks.

Well,

I did not.

Im on 2013 version and tried deleting ini and repair install but with no luck.

Seems like (see page 1) a complete reinstall may solve it- but I did not yet want to reinstall everything as there are so many plugins and preferences to be set up again (not to mention the license server thingy..) that I always manage my scene around the scene manager.

Which for sure sucks.

Reinstall seems the only solution- and compared to the time spent to search for solutions it would have been done already anyway..

I got same problem.

And I can't solve it.

In my case, Max2012 work, but 2013 and 2014 do not work.

Well, no, I still don't.

Maybe a complete reinstall is a solution (repair install didnt fix it) but this is such an effort that I still have not chosen to go this way..

Actually even reinstalling all plugins is annoying.

And it was so tediuos to get my version (2013) running after lots of licensing issues. Dont want to lose days in the end.

So please- if you find a way to solve it without reinstalling, give the answer here. That would be great.

Good luck!

open up your state sets window.

its blank but you have the menu bar at the top

in the the drop down menu states> Options>REset Window Layout

back pops your gray window with your tabs and tree.

Done

I had finally fixed it.
In my case, the solution like magic spell works.
You should try it.

Here is how I solved it:

I logged on in Windows as Admin user, started 3dsmax started the Scene
State Manager and it works.
Going back to my user and it works also.

it worked ///

thanks

Since this thread has been bumped I wanted to offer up one more solution as well.  I have logged a few cases where the drivers for 3D Connexion mice are preventing this from working. More info here.

Best Regards,

4 years later, and I have the same bug under 2017. Sometimes it's a little depressing ...
