MAJOR 3ds max 2016 cut tool bug

So I discovered pretty nasty bug for the cut tool in 3ds max 2016 that make it a complete nightmare to use. Everytime I create a new cut it connects the newly created vertex with the nearest two vertices of the polygon hence creating this horrible edge mess that you can see on the picture below. If you look at the grid of edges on the right side of the mesh those are not connected edges they are overlapping which creates a really nasty geometry error.

But when I save the scene, close it and open it again that edge mess magically disappears and the cut mesh looks just like it should look like, just like it used to work in previous 3ds max versions.

I really hope that Autodesk will fix this bug ASAP. This bug makes the cut tool practically useless as of right now!

Hmm... Doesn't happen here. Is this example made on a newly made box object with no modifiers?

Strange, i`m not getting this. Works as expected and like in previous versions.

Someone else?

Hmm that's very strange. The box is new yes, created from scratch in max 2016 and no modifiers. I tested a bit more and it looks like those edges are just ghost edges. It's rendering, but technically it's not there on the geometry, should I delete a single polygon enywhere on the mesh, those edges are instantly gone! Thas't very weird

I would have though it's a graphical glitch, but I have GeForce 780 GTX with the latest NVIDIA drivers installed and I never had this or similar glitches in previous versions of max either.

I wonder if someone else have or had it before.

Can not repro

I bet 100% that this is only some graphics driver/system environment related effect

I got the 780GTX too here, but as i said , i cannot repro the problem...

Well at least it's not a 3ds max bug it seems, that's good to know. Though it doesn't help to solve this glitch, it's so freaking annoying. The most strange part is that max 2015 works fine on my machine and doesn't have any graphical glitches at all. I guess no upgrade for me this time Smiley Frustrated

Maybe you should try an older driver? As we saw, it wasn't Max that causes this issue.

Yeah I'm gonna try that and see what will happen.

OK switching to Nitrous Direct3D 9 display driver solved the issue. I think Autodesk should still look into that as it's clearly some sort of Nitrous dx11 conflict with drivers or something like that in max 2016 even though it's not affecting everyone. Because like I mentioned before max 2015 doesn't have this problem with its dx11 display driver on my machine with the same drivers

I had the same problem on GeForce GTX 560 Ti. Switch to the Nitrous DX9 solved the problem. Drivers 347.52.

I have a geforce 660, updated clean drivers...no luck...tried a 670 next ..no luck.

Now tried a 760 no luck...issue still exists. Switching to Dx9 is not a solution...performance is terrible with it.

Even uninstall and reinstalled Max.... did't resolve the issue.

Hope there is a fix for this soon ... very annoying bug and have had to go back to 2015 in the meantime.

Autodesk...any word on this?

thx.

I'm getting this too. Total bull****.

This combined with select and link not working is making 2016 a nightmare - very tempted to roll back to 2015

Turning off backface cull seems to help - the tool is still acting weird, but its useable.
