Importing Model

Hi, 

 

I am importing a model from a PDf file but when i do it add more lines into the mode (sorry im not sure what the word is to describe this but ive included an example picture) example.jpg

What is happening?

Is it really adding that many edges? I have never worked with a file that has been output to a PDF before so I can only assume that the edges were here before and hidden and when imported it is unhiding them. What format was this object in before going to a PDF?
