Click "Create New Scene" then Help > Welcome Screen. You should then have the "open template manager" link.

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).

Hi Steve

A little confused with what you said - if i click on the 'create new scene', isnt that from the dialogue box of the welcome screen anyway? then you go on to say go to help>welcome screen?
Its the same thing isnt it?

I'm looking at your attached image - I can see the button "Create New Scene". If that doesn't close it then there should be an "X" at the top, outside the main gray box. Once you're in max proper you can go to the Help option which the video tells you to do.

Steve,

I have this exact same problem and did what you said and still have no Template Manager.

Is this a VRay thing (I use VRay as my default renderer).

Thanks.

Sorry, can't answer that - I don't have Vray. I can only go by what's in the Help and in the video linked to earlier, and in my case it just works.

Hello everyone,

I got your report  about not seeing the new Template Manager in 3ds Max 2015 Extension 2 Service Pack 3.

Please try a quick reset of 3ds Max 2015 as per below link.

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max-design/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/...

Then go to Help > Welcome Screen  and see if there is a link that says :
"Open Template Manager"

If no link, then click in 3ds Max viewport and press keyboard  x

In the Search All Actions pop up , type :  Template

Then choose : Open Template Manager

Let me know if that helps please.

I found that downloading the installer directly from the Subscription Centre and executing it manually made the new templates appear in the Welcome screen.

In my case, when going through the Application Manager, it would install the update, but not reveal the new templates.

For those of you reporting this problem:

Did you initially install Extension 2 only, for 3ds Max 2015?

Extension 2 includes Service Pack 3.

Or... did you install Service Pack 3 only? ( without Extension 2 ).

Seems some users only installed SP3 & not the Extension. The Welcome Screen is updated in both, so it can easily give the impression that the Template Manager is missing.

Thanks for your feedback.

i installed them as they came through the application manager.

Is there a way to actually view the installed SPs?

Hi everyone,

If you go to Control Panel > Uninstall A Program,  do you see this in the listings?

Autodesk 3ds Max 2015 Ext2
Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2015 Ext2
( above is what I see on a computer with Extension 2 installed - Ext2 includes SP3/Service Pack 3 )

Template Manager available on my computer with above installed.

Or do you only see
Autodesk 3ds Max 2015 Ext1
Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2015 Ext1
( above is what I see on a computer with Service Pack 3 install only, No Extension2)
Template Manager Not available with above installed.

To actually view installed service packs >
From 3ds Max go to Help > Autodesk Product Information > About 3ds Max
In upper left window look to see if it shows Product Version : 17.0 SP3

Note just having SP3 won't give access to features in Extension 2.
You need to get Extension 2 from Subscription Center.

So the question is > those who do not have or cannot access Template Manager >
Do you see  "Autodesk 3ds Max 2015 Ext2"  listed in Windows > Uninstall a Program?

As Darren wrote earlier : "... extension 2 for 3ds max 2015  ...you only get this if your on subscription "

Hope that clears things up and if you do See Ext2 but still can't access template manager, let me know please!

Best Regards

I am seeing the same problem. I've installed all three service packs from the direct download. They are not listed in the Windows contol panel as noted previously even after they all successfully installed, and pressing "X" and trying to launch the template manager directly by typing does nothing at all...the name comes up but nothing executes. I also tried deleting the "ENU" user folder and having it recreate that, and that didn't do anyhthing either. A screen capture of what is shown installed is attached.

The one thing I can think of is that I am a university professor and using the educational license. Looking at the "About" tab it says "17.0 SP3 student"

Would that make a difference?

Is there no other way to save template files than this recalcitrant template manager?

Thanks,

Deborah Oakley

Deborah:

AFAIK to list the installed servicepacks you have to click "View installed updates" ( or what it's called in your OS version )

That link should be visible somewhere on the left ...

Hi Deborah,

Can you please verify below for me?

Did you get the installer that looks like either of these?
3dsMax_2015_EXT2
3dsMaxDesign_2015_EXT2

The only way to get the Template Manager is to install Extension 2 for 3ds Max 2015
from the subscription center.

Please go to the subscription center below.
If you forgot logins , click Forgot Id or Forgot Password in link.

http://subscription.autodesk.com/sp/servlet/public/index?siteID=11564774&id=11607975

If you cannot login to subcenter it means you either don't have access to subscription benefits or
should log a case so that the Autodesk Business Center can address  why you don't have access to
the fles.

After logging into Subcenter :
-Click Access Your Subscription Center Benefits
-In Left margin click Downloads
-Then click Product Enhancements
-Look for the extension that you need:
3dsMax_2015_EXT2
3dsMaxDesign_2015_EXT2

Installing or updating to just service pack 3 from our public website won't allow access to Template Manager.
One needs to get the installs from Subcription Center.

If you already did that  let me know please.

Best Regards

Hi Vishnu,

No, I did not!

The installer I have is labeled "3dsMaxDesign2015_SP2.exe"

Where does one obtain "3dsMaxDesign_2015_EXT2"?  I've looked all through the dowloads area and can't find anything like it.

I've seen it mentioned that this is available though the subscription service. Is this just not available to professors in the edcucational version? This is all very unclear.

Thanks,

Deborah
